The rug having been started just inside the edging stitch, either close against it or one row in , it will be realized that there are several rows to be worked over the doubled-over canvas.

This is naturally very tiresome, but there is no doubt that the doubled inch or so makes for strength and gives added weight at each end which encourages the rug to lie flat on the floor.

When using single mesh canvas, the "double" is definitely difficult to work through accurately, but it can be done and has been done times without number, although by dealing with the edge by one of the methods suggested in Chapter Three it is avoided.
