Cross stitch making

Lines of cross stitch can be worked in several directions with great ease but it should be remembered that the top, i.e. the upper half, of the cross should always lie in the same direction throughout, e.g. from bottom left to top right.

Any deviation from a regular slope of the top half spoils the general look of the rug and if variations of cross stitch are combined in one rug they should all have their top stitches sloping in the same direction, and bottom left to top right is generally found to be the most convenient for working
