Making a Turkey knot in rugs
1st Movement. To work the stitch on double mesh canvas, the needle is inserted downwards between the two bars, round the back of the left-hand one and brought up again, leaving the short tail end held down by the left thumb as in Surrey stitch.
2nd Movement. The needle is then taken across the front of both bars, down and under round the right-hand one, and brought up again between the two bars, when the resulting knot is pulled tight.
Note that the start and finish of the stitch is thus between the same two threads of a double bar.
