Pile rugs
Pile rugs are started just inside the edging stitch (with the turned-over cut edge uppermost) and with the full length of the canvas stretching away from the worker. This applies to whichever of these two stitches is used.
For left-handed workers it is naturally easier to do the stitch in the opposite direction to that described and other instructions hereafter will need corresponding modifications, as experience will show.
When single mesh canvas is used for the foundation, two threads equal the double bar of the double mesh canvas as previously stated.
Many people consider that a pile rug is improved if a row of long-legged cross stitch is worked between the edging stitch and the start of the pile.
