The length of three-quarters of an inch suggested above is suitable for canvas meshes of 3 to 4 holes to the inch, but when finer canvas is used this length should be proportionally reduced.

It may be helpful to note that the loops really consist of two blanket stitches, one towards the worker that is not pulled tight followed by one horizontally from right to left that is pulled tight.

Remembering this will ensure that the needle always passes over the wool when forming the second part of the stitch—a fact that is sometimes forgotten with the result that the knot is not tied correctly.
